Ryan Garcia Changes His Mind, Wants to Fight Rolando Romero Instead

Published on: [Date]

Professional boxer Ryan Garcia made a surprising announcement on Twitter, stating that he has decided to take a different path in his career. In his tweet, Garcia expressed his intention to fight Rolando Romero and called on his team to support this decision. He also urged Oscar, presumably referring to Oscar De La Hoya, to make the fight happen, emphasizing that it would be a bigger fight with bigger business opportunities.

This declaration caught many off guard, as Garcia had previously indicated that he would not face Romero and instead wanted to challenge junior welterweight champion Devin Haney, who is also considered one of the best pound for pound fighters in the sport.

Garcia further justified his decision by stating that after dealing with Romero, the fight against Haney would be even more significant. He dismissed the critics, claiming that they would eventually realize that his choice was the better move. He also suggested that Haney could face Richardson Hitchens and mocked the potential low pay-per-view buys for that matchup, asserting that he doesn't need Haney, but rather Haney needs him.

In response to Garcia's comments, Haney took to Twitter and expressed his displeasure. He warned Garcia not to mention his name and confidently stated that Garcia would eventually come back to him.

Garcia, displaying his confidence, replied to Haney's tweet in a smug manner, implying that he has no intention of going back on his decision.

It is a well-known fact that Garcia's popularity outweighs his skills as a fighter. This is why he may choose to avoid facing top titlist Haney and instead opt for an easier fight against Romero. Only after that, if he feels like it, he might consider fighting Haney. However, Garcia will need to consistently challenge himself or face serious competition in order to maintain his fan base and earning potential.

Although Romero is not an easy opponent, he is known for his hard-hitting and exciting style. Some argue that he performed better against Gervonta Davis than Garcia did in their superfight last spring. If the fight between Garcia and WBA junior welterweight titlist Romero is made, Garcia will likely be the favorite. Despite any criticism, Garcia is not taking on an easy opponent if he agrees to face Romero in the ring.
