Oscar De La Hoya Making Moves in Boxing World
Hall of Fame fighter and Golden Boy Promotions honcho Oscar De La Hoya is apparently feeling pretty good lately. After taking part in the wily Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia press tour, the 51 year old promoter took to social media to simultaneously flex and encourage fighters from Premier Boxing Champions to reach out to him. “I’m making fights!” De La Hoya posted. “Who else is stepping up?? Where’s all the Hamon fighters?” The Haymon De La Hoya refers to is PBC honcho Al Haymon, a camera shy advisor whose organization appears (“appears” being the operative word here) to be falling on some tough times, having recently parted ways with Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
Oscar De La Hoya Mocks Hamonites and PBC Critics
During a recent interaction, Oscar De La Hoya mocked the Hamonites, referring to them as "cringe." The term "Hamonites" is used to describe individuals, especially on the internet, who are fans of Premier Boxing Champions and its fighters. Despite rumors of PBC facing troubles, De La Hoya seemed amused by those who anticipate its downfall. The prediction of PBC's demise has been circulating for almost a decade, but the promotional outlet continues to stand strong (with an uncertain future).
Unfazed by the speculations, De La Hoya exuded confidence, declaring, "I don’t give a rats ass what you say, I'm back and I'm taking over!!!!" He even proposed a potential matchup between super middleweights Edgar Berlanga and David Morrell, asking for opinions on the idea. Furthermore, De La Hoya subtly criticized the upcoming PBC fight between Keith Thurman and Tim Tszyu, hinting at Thurman's inactivity in recent years.
Expressing his doubts about the bout, De La Hoya took to @amazon to comment, "A fighter that hasn’t fought in years and a fighter that nobody knows is a recipe for disaster, great job AL." While the outcome of the PBC fight remains uncertain, one thing is clear - De La Hoya was in high spirits during the exchange, leaving observers to speculate on his intentions.
