Light Heavyweight Title Fight in Quebec

"I've never seen snow like we're seeing here," said Callum Smith in an interview with Ariel Helwani on Wednesday. Smith is preparing for his upcoming light heavyweight title fight in Quebec this weekend. However, he knows he will face a tough challenge in his opponent, the feared Artur Beterbiev.

This is not Smith's first shot at glory. In 2020, he held the WBA super middleweight championship of the world and went up against Canelo Alvarez. Unfortunately, Smith was unable to overcome the strength of the red-haired star and lost to Canelo in a unanimous decision by the judges.

Smith is optimistic about his upcoming fight against Beterbiev in the chilly Quebec night. He acknowledges Beterbiev's achievements as an undefeated world champion with three world titles and a knockout record. However, Smith believes that Beterbiev is not invincible and can be hit. He draws parallels to boxing legends like Mike Tyson and Roy Jones, emphasizing that even the best fighters can lose.

Smith's confidence in himself and his skills is unwavering. He firmly believes that he can defeat anyone on the planet, including Beterbiev. Reflecting on his loss to Canelo, Smith sees it as a learning experience that highlighted areas for improvement. He acknowledges that it was a subpar performance and aims to enter the ring on Saturday night as a better and stronger fighter.

With many people hoping for a showdown between Beterbiev and Canelo conqueror Dmitry Bivol sooner rather than later, Smith will certainly be upsetting the proverbial applecart should he shock the fight world by besting Beterbiev this weekend in Canada. Then again, he won’t be the first fighter to send shockwaves throughout the sport. Francis Ngannou of UFC fame almost bested Tyson Fury not all that long ago, and it’s only been a few weeks since Deontay Wilder was shocked by Joseph Parker. In a sport filled with surprises, Smith hopes to present a surprise of his own on Saturday.
