Gymnast Morgan Price made history by becoming the first athlete from a historically Black college or university team to win a national collegiate championship on Friday.
The Fisk University student secured the title with an all-around score of 39.225 – and was hailed as "the first USAG Collegiate National Champion from an HBCU!" announced USA Gymnastics. She competed against athletes from 12 college teams at the USA Gymnastics' 2024 Women's Collegiate National Championships in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Price joined the inaugural HBCU intercollegiate team at Fisk University in 2023 following her high school graduation. She had initially committed to the program with high hopes.
Since its establishment, the gymnastics team has attracted significant media coverage, appeared on ESPN, and consistently filled arenas for their meets.
"Being part of this pioneering team has been an incredible experience. Embracing our culture and making history has brought us immense joy. The support we receive is phenomenal, and seeing the enthusiasm from fans and young girls cheering us on has been incredibly rewarding," Price expressed in 2023.
After securing a historic win, her team took to social media to share their excitement, proclaiming, "THE PRICE IS RIGHT. Etch her name in the HISTORY BOOKS."
Price is set to showcase her skills in the Individual Event finals on vault, bars, and floor this coming Sunday.
