Gypsy Rose Blanchard shared on her personal Facebook page that she and her husband Ryan Anderson have decided to separate, just three months following her release from prison in connection to her mother's murder. This announcement coincided with Blanchard's decision to remove her popular TikTok and Instagram profiles.
Blanchard was convicted of second-degree murder for the killing of her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard, who was fatally stabbed by Gypsy Rose's then-boyfriend Nick Godejohn in 2015. This tragic event served as the inspiration for the Hulu series, "The Act." Godejohn confessed to the authorities that he carried out the act at the request of Gypsy Rose, who had recently discovered that the numerous illnesses she had been told she suffered from were fabricated as part of a lifetime of abuse. Following his guilty plea, Godejohn received a life sentence.
After serving seven years of her 10-year sentence, Gypsy Rose was released from prison on December 28.
It was while she was incarcerated that she met Ryan Anderson, an educator specializing in special education from Louisiana. The couple exchanged vows in July 2022.
However, on Thursday, Blanchard revealed that the two have decided to go their separate ways.
"In a recent update on my life, I want to share that my husband and I are going through a separation, and I have moved back to my parents' home down the bayo," she disclosed on her private Facebook account as reported by People magazine. "I am grateful for the support of my family and friends during this time, as I navigate through this period of self-discovery and reflection."
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this year, Blanchard shared that she felt a strong connection with Anderson when they began corresponding while she was incarcerated. She mentioned being drawn to the fact that he resides in Louisiana, her home state.
"After exchanging letters and developing a friendship, our relationship grew into something more, and eventually led to our marriage," she revealed.
Following her release from prison, she and Anderson started living together and focused on getting to know each other better. While they had conversations about starting a family, they were uncertain about the timing.
"By getting married [while she was still incarcerated], she was able to move in with me immediately after her release," Anderson shared with ET. "That was crucial to us. It's what we both desired."
"We're taking each day as it comes," Gypsy Rose remarked. "Our focus is on establishing a strong foundation for our marriage before considering expanding our family at this moment."
Recently, Gypsy Rose made a bold move by removing her presence from social media platforms, where she had garnered a massive following. She started by deleting her Instagram account, which had reached a staggering 7.8 million followers at one point. Following this, she took to TikTok to express her intentions of living authentically and distancing herself from the virtual world.
In a series of TikToks, she shared her thoughts on social media, referring to it as a "doorway to hell" and expressing her inability to comprehend its impact. She highlighted the intense public scrutiny she faced and her desire to break free from living under constant observation.
Subsequently, Gypsy Rose decided to also delete her TikTok account, a decision reportedly made under the guidance of her parole officer. The move was aimed at avoiding any potential violations that could jeopardize her freedom and lead to a return to prison.
