Breaking News: A single ticket sold in New Jersey wins the $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot!

After more than three months without a jackpot winner, Tuesday's winning numbers were revealed: 7, 11, 22, 29, 38, and the Mega Ball 4.

This massive jackpot is the eighth largest in U.S. lottery history and the fifth largest in Mega Millions history. The record for the biggest Mega Millions jackpot stands at $1.602 billion, won in Florida last year. The largest prize in U.S. lottery history, a staggering $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot, was claimed in California in February 2023.

Winners of the jackpot can choose between a lump sum cash payment or receiving the winnings over 30 years in annual installments. The estimated lump sum payment for this jackpot is $537.5 million before taxes.

Mega Millions drawings take place on Tuesday and Friday nights, while Powerball holds its drawings on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights. Powerball, which has also not produced a jackpot winner, had an estimated jackpot of $865 million as of Tuesday night.

To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players need to match all five white balls plus the yellow Mega Ball. There are smaller prizes available for matching some of the drawn numbers, starting as low as $2. The odds of winning a Mega Millions prize are 1 in 24, while the odds of hitting the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.

Mega Millions tickets can be purchased in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. A standard ticket costs $2, and players can add bonuses for additional fees to increase the payout for non-jackpot prizes.
