Boy Bitten by Shark at Bahamas Resort
Police are currently investigating an incident where a young boy from Maryland was bitten by a shark at a resort in the Bahamas. The 10-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, was participating in a shark tank expedition at a local resort on Paradise Island when the incident occurred.
The attack took place shortly before 4 p.m. and resulted in a bite to the boy's right leg. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition.
It is unclear whether the boy was accompanied by family members at the time of the attack. The police have not disclosed the name of the resort where the incident occurred. The Atlantis Paradise Island resort, known for its shark experiences, has not yet provided a comment in response to the incident.
In December, a tragic incident occurred in Boston where a woman lost her life in a shark attack
Shark attacks are not common, and fatal incidents are even rarer. The Florida Museum of Natural History's International Shark Attack File conducted an investigation into 108 reported shark-human interactions worldwide in 2022. The investigation confirmed 57 unprovoked bites and 32 provoked bites. However, there were five cases that could not be verified.
"The chances of swimmers and surfers being bitten by sharks, or even encountering them, are extremely low," stated Lauren Gaches, director of public affairs for NOAA Fisheries, according to a previous report by CBS News.
