Comedian Jo Koy to Host 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards

Comedian Jo Koy has been announced as the host for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards. This will be the first time Koy, 52, will host the prestigious awards show.

Koy is widely known for his stand-up comedy and has previously starred in the comedy film "Easter Sunday." In 2021, he released his autobiography titled "Mixed Plate: Chronicles of an All-American Combo."

In a statement, Koy expressed his excitement about hosting the Golden Globes. "I've stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special," he said. "I'm so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is the moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita!"

The Golden Globe Awards, known as the official kickoff to Hollywood's 2024 awards season, honors the best in both television and film. The nominees for this year's Golden Globes were unveiled earlier this month.

"Barbenheimer" received the most nominations, with nine nods for "Barbie" and eight for "Oppenheimer." The final season of "Succession" also led with nine nominations.

The nominations in 27 categories were announced by Cedric "The Entertainer" and Wilmer Valderrama. The presentation was livestreamed on CBSNews.com, and nominations in 10 of the categories were also broadcast live on "CBS Mornings."

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 7th, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time (5-8 p.m. Pacific Time). This year, the ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS as part of a new deal between the Golden Globes and the network.

If you prefer to stream the ceremony, you can watch it on Paramount+ and the CBS app. Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, is making the event available on their platforms.

CBS is now the new home for the Golden Globes after their longstanding relationship with NBC ended. The award show is currently working to rebuild its credibility under new leadership following a widely publicized scandal and boycotts. These actions were a response to allegations of racism and ethical lapses within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization responsible for organizing the Globes and determining its nominees and winners.
