Texas transplant Elon Musk has announced plans to establish a new university school in Austin, according to recent tax filings.
The school, which has yet to be named, will initially function as a primary and secondary school with a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects. It will receive funding from a $100 million donation by Musk's charity, The Foundation, as well as student tuition fees, as stated in the filings.
The filing also reveals that the school will cater to local students and offer remote learning opportunities through "distance education technologies." The initial enrollment target is set at 50 students, with admission criteria emphasizing academic curiosity, discipline, independence, and innovation.
Once the school is deemed to be operating successfully, it will expand into a university and seek accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges.
