Authorities have reported the arrest of a 44-year-old man in Beverly Hills on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, and the commission of a hate crime. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the vicinity of North Rexford Avenue and North Santa Monica Boulevard.
According to the Beverly Hills police, the victim, an elderly individual, sustained a head laceration after being struck by a belt. The victim was accompanied by their spouse at the time of the attack, during which the suspect made anti-Semitic remarks. Immediate medical attention was provided to the victim at the scene.
Although the suspect managed to flee, law enforcement officers were able to locate and apprehend an individual matching the suspect's description. Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook praised the swift action of his officers, stating, "Our officers quickly apprehended the suspect and he is in custody. This despicable act of hate against a member of our community will not be tolerated."
The suspect has been identified as Jarris Jay Silagi from Los Angeles. Silagi has been arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, hate crime, elder abuse, and attempted robbery. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail, with an initial court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.

The Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, expressed her outrage over an antisemitic act that recently occurred in the city. In a statement, Mayor Bass emphasized the importance of holding the responsible individual fully accountable to the law.
"The individual responsible for this vile act is in custody and must be held fully accountable to the law. The City of Los Angeles will continue to work with our partners throughout the region to actively combat antisemitism," Mayor Bass said.
