A Fire Breaks Out in Rome Hospital, Resulting in Three Fatalities

Tragedy struck a hospital on the outskirts of Rome when a fire broke out, claiming the lives of at least three individuals. The incident led to the immediate evacuation of the smoke-filled facility and its patients overnight, according to officials on Saturday.

In order to ensure their safety, patients in intensive care at St. John the Evangelist hospital in Tivoli were swiftly transferred to other hospitals using ambulances, as stated by the Tivoli mayor's office. Less critical patients were relocated to a nearby municipal gymnasium before being transferred to alternative medical facilities.

Francesco Rocca, the governor of the Lazio region, who was present at the scene, confirmed the death toll of three and announced that an investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the fire. He also acknowledged the significant delays in updating Italy's aging hospitals with essential fire safety infrastructure, such as sprinkler systems.

Rocca, the governor, praised fire crews and the civil protection agency for the "truly exceptional" overnight operation to transfer the patients out of the building.

Premier Giorgia Meloni offered a note of condolences to the families of the victims.

Tivoli, which is located about 35 kilometers (20 miles) northeast of the center of Rome, is a popular tourist destination. It is best known for the archaeological sites of Villa d'Este and Villa Adriana, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
