Las Vegas Police Searching for Suspect in Shootings of Homeless People
Las Vegas police are currently on the lookout for a lone suspect in the shootings of five homeless people, one of whom was fatally wounded, according to authorities.
"Right now we are trying to figure out what exactly happened during the shooting, the information we have is kind of conflicting," stated Las Vegas Metro Police Department spokesperson Jason Johansson during a news conference.
The police have not provided any additional details as to why they are only searching for one suspect.
Initially, a police commander reported that two individuals had been killed. However, Johansson later clarified during a briefing that one man in his 50s had been pronounced dead, another was in critical condition, and three others were in stable condition.
All five victims of the shootings were homeless. The incidents took place shortly after 5:30 p.m. local time at an "unhoused encampment" near the intersection of Sandhill Road and Charleston Boulevard, close to U.S. Highway 95 in East Las Vegas, as confirmed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to CBS News. The shooting occurred within the "unhoused encampment."
Emergency medical teams swiftly transported the five men to the UMC Trauma Center, where one victim was tragically pronounced dead.
