Strong Earthquake Strikes Southern Philippines

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 hit the southern Philippines island of Mindanao. The earthquake occurred off the coast and triggered a tsunami warning.
The earthquake struck at 10:37 p.m. and was measured at a depth of 32 kilometers (20 miles). The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has predicted that tsunami waves could hit the southern Philippines, as well as parts of Indonesia, Palau, and Malaysia.
In response to the tsunami warning, the Philippine government agency has advised residents of Surigao Del Sur and Davao Oriental provinces, located on the eastern shores of Mindanao, to evacuate immediately to higher grounds or move inland.
