The arrest of Barton Seltmann, 84, was announced on November 28 by the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office. Police had responded to a call about an "unresponsive" female in a residence on North Keim Road.
Upon arrival, prosecutors stated that Margaret Seltmann, 85, was found deceased inside the house. Barton was discovered with blood on his face, hands, and clothes. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment of a hand injury.
A criminal complaint revealed that Barton told investigators that he and his wife were in the midst of an argument about money for their cat's veterinary care. He claimed that Margaret grabbed a knife and threatened to kill him.
Barton admitted to pushing a chair at his wife, causing her to fall and hit her head. He then proceeded to strike her with his fists and other objects. During the investigation, a small kitchen knife was found under Margaret's body, along with pieces from a broken candle jar.
