Stephen Colbert Recovering from Surgery for Ruptured Appendix
Late night host Stephen Colbert is currently recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix, as announced on Monday. Colbert, who hosts "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on CBS, had to cancel this week's episodes to focus on his recovery.
In a social media post, Colbert humorously addressed the situation, saying, "I'm sure you're thinking, 'Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?' Actually, I'm recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix. I'm grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas."
A ruptured appendix, also known as a burst appendix, can lead to peritonitis, which is the spread of infection throughout the abdomen. This condition can be life-threatening and requires immediate surgery to remove the appendix and clean the abdominal cavity.
As a result of his recovery, "The Late Show" had to cancel its scheduled episodes for this week. The lineup included Jennifer Garner, director Baz Luhrmann, guitarist John Scofield, Patrick Stewart, Jon Batiste, Barbra Streisand, and Kelsey Grammer.
Colbert has been hosting "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" on CBS since 2015. Prior to that, he was the host of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" from 2005 to 2014.
