Ice Cream Recall
Wilcox Ice Cream is issuing a recall on all flavors of Wilcox brand ice cream, yogurt, and ice cream bars, along with Leonardo's brand gelato. The reason for the recall is the potential contamination of these products with listeria, according to the company.
The New Hampshire Department of Health discovered that the Super Premium Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream from the Arlington, Vermont ice cream maker tested positive for listeria during routine testing in September.
Wilcox stated in a recall notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration, "As part of our investigation, we determined that preliminary testing showed that the ice cream mix purchased to make our products may contain listeria monocytogenes."
Listeria can cause severe infections, and in some cases, it can be fatal, especially in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women who contract listeria infections are at risk of miscarriages and stillbirths.
Two individuals have been hospitalized due to a recent outbreak of listeria caused by ice cream produced by The Ice Cream House of Brooklyn, New York. The company issued recalls in both August and September in response to the outbreak. For more information, please visit this link.
The latest recall pertains to products made by Wilcox and distributed in retail stores and co-ops across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.
All products produced at the Wilcox facility with best by/sell by dates from September 14, 2024, to November 14, 2024, are being recalled. The affected flavors include:
