Elon Musk announced that X Corp. will contribute all the proceeds generated from advertising and subscriptions related to the conflict in Gaza to hospitals in Israel and the Red Cross in Gaza. This decision comes as a response to the increasing backlash Musk has faced after showing support for an anti-Semitic post on X.
"We will monitor the allocation of funds and work with the Red Cross/Crescent. We welcome better suggestions. Our concern should be for the innocent, regardless of their race, beliefs, religion, or any other factor," stated the billionaire on X, previously known as Twitter. Musk renamed Twitter as X Corp in July after acquiring the platform in 2022.
Musk frequently utilizes X as a platform to express his opinions and share his company's achievements. He added, "We should do everything in our power to create a better future for everyone."
Initially, the commitment to donate revenue from ads and subscriptions did not specify the expected amount. This announcement follows the criticism Musk received for endorsing an anti-Semitic post, which led to condemnation from various critics and organizations like the Anti-Defamation League, an advocacy group combatting hate against Jewish individuals.
Elon Musk Supports Controversial Statement on Social Media
In a recent social media exchange, billionaire Elon Musk voiced agreement with a user's comment that accused Jews of promoting hatred against white people. Musk's response to the post was, "You have said the actual truth."
Simultaneously, Media Matters published a report alleging that certain advertisements appeared alongside neo-Nazi content on the same platform. However, Musk strongly denies these claims and has taken legal action against the left-leaning watchdog group. He filed a lawsuit on Monday, asserting that Media Matters misrepresented its findings.
Despite the controversy, a number of major advertisers continue to support the platform.
