New Delhi — A tragic incident unfolded in the Dandeli rural area of Karnataka state, where a couple's argument led to the death of their 6-year-old son. The mother, Savitri, 26, allegedly threw their deaf and nonverbal son into a crocodile infested canal, resulting in the child's demise.
Neighbors of the couple alerted the police, triggering a search operation that involved divers. The child's body was discovered in the canal the following morning, showing signs of injuries and a missing hand, likely consumed by a crocodile.
Investigating officer Krishna Arakeri revealed that during preliminary questioning, Savitri confessed that her husband, Ravi Kumar, 27, often blamed her for their son's disabilities and encouraged her to dispose of him in the river.
The mother's alleged action on Saturday was triggered by another argument between the couple regarding their son. Both individuals have been arrested and are facing charges, including murder. They have been remanded in custody for 15 days pending trial.
Following a post-mortem examination, the child's body was released to other family members. The results of the examination are anticipated in the near future.
In addition, the couple has a second son who is 2 years old and is currently being looked after by relatives.
