An Iowa company has issued a recall for a range of white confectionary products sold nationwide due to potential contamination with salmonella, a harmful bacteria.

The affected items were distributed in various retail stores such as Dollar General, HyVee, Target, and Walmart, according to the recall notice from Sioux City-based Palmer Candy.

Palmer Candy explained that they were informed by their liquid coating supplier about the contamination risk stemming from an ingredient that might have been tainted with salmonella by a supplier of the supplier.

Salmonella can lead to severe and sometimes fatal infections, especially in vulnerable populations like children, elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea, fever, and vomiting.
