Four English-speaking countries - Australia, Canada, the U.K., and the U.S. - are facing a similar challenge: a shortage of nurses, mechanics, and electricians.
An analysis by career site Indeed.com revealed that these countries have a common need for job candidates in certain sectors. The analysis, based on resume searches in 2023, identified the top 10 job sectors with the most sought-after candidates by employers and recruiters across the four nations.
Despite unique labor market issues in each country, Indeed found a shared set of "common pain points." These include industries with the most acute talent shortages: health care, hospitality, and skilled trades like electricians and plumbers. Notably, mechanics were the most searched for job candidates in all four countries.
In the United States, registered nurses have emerged as the most sought-after resumes, comprising 4.1% of all searches, with sales positions coming in second. Surprisingly, many of the top sectors in demand do not mandate a college degree, a fact that stands out amidst the escalating costs of higher education.
Here is a rundown of the top 10 most searched-for job resumes in the U.S., as per Indeed.com.
