The 2024 American Music Awards is set to make its debut on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Candidates for the AMAs are selected based on factors such as streaming, album and digital sales, radio airplay, and social activity. The winners are determined by fan votes, often resulting in unexpected winners and special collaborative performances.

In 2021, the South Korean sensation BTS claimed the title of Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards. On the same memorable night, fans were treated to a joint performance by the iconic groups New Edition and New Kids on the Block, much to the delight of their older fan base. Previous editions of the show have showcased exclusive world premiere performances by some of the biggest names in the music industry spanning various genres like pop, rap, R&B, country, Latin, and K-Pop.

In 2019, Taylor Swift made history by becoming the most decorated AMA award winner with 25 wins. During the live broadcast, she secured two more awards, surpassing the legendary Michael Jackson's record of 24 wins. Swift clinched the prestigious artist of the year award and was also honored as the artist of the decade.

According to Reuters, Swift added 6 more accolades to her collection in 2022, bringing her total AMA wins to an impressive 40. The show did not air in 2023.

Presented by Dick Clark Productions, the award ceremony will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (5 p.m. Pacific Time).
