A shocking incident unfolded in Nevada as authorities discovered an 11-year-old child "being contained within a large metal enclosure" at a residence.

Misty Scanlan, 46, and Jeffery Scanlan, 41, were apprehended and charged with child abuse and neglect following the distressing discovery, according to a statement from the Henderson Police Department. The arrest transpired after law enforcement responded to a truancy report from the school district at the Scanlan household around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday. A school officer had visited the home due to a child's absence from school and heard alarming sounds emanating from the premises, as per CBS affiliate KLAS-TV reports. The truant officer promptly sought police assistance.

Shocking Incident Revealed in Police Report

A disturbing incident came to light when the father of a young boy with severe Autism spectrum disorder informed the police that his son was found in an enclosure, wearing a diaper and covered in feces. The father claimed that the cage was used to control the boy's outbursts.

At the time of the discovery, there were three other children present in the house. One of the children mentioned to the authorities that the enclosure had been in the house for two years, while the father stated that it had been there for six years.

Following their booking into the Henderson County Detention Center, the Scanlans were released on a $5,000 bond the next day as per online court records. Their court appearance is scheduled for May.
