Disturbing Incident Involving Secret Service Agent at Joint Base Andrews

Washington — Reports have emerged of a concerning incident involving a U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris at Joint Base Andrews. The agent displayed alarming behavior on Monday morning, leading to their hospitalization. Fortunately, Vice President Harris was not present at the airbase during the incident.

A statement released by the U.S. Secret Service to CBS News revealed that at approximately 9 a.m. local time on Monday, the agent started exhibiting behavior that was deemed distressing by their colleagues. As a result, the agent was immediately taken off their assignment, and medical assistance was requested.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the agent was reportedly speaking incoherently, spouting gibberish, and even engaged in a physical altercation with another officer, pushing the special agent in charge near the lounge of Joint Base Andrews.

Despite the unsettling event, Vice President Harris was located at the Naval Observatory at the time, and the incident did not impact her scheduled departure from Joint Base Andrews. Sources indicated that the incident took place just an hour before Harris was set to depart for Wisconsin.

Following the altercation, the agent was promptly restrained and detained by fellow Secret Service agents who intervened. Emergency services were promptly called to the scene to address the situation.

Following an initial medical assessment, the agent has been hospitalized, according to sources familiar with the situation. There is currently no evidence of substance abuse, they noted.

The USSS is currently on standby pending further updates, as per the sources. Once the agent receives additional medical care and a thorough examination, a decision will be made regarding their ability to resume duty. An internal inquiry will be carried out, during which the USSS will determine whether the agent's top-secret security clearance should be revoked for medical or disciplinary reasons, the sources clarified.

Furthermore, the sources revealed that, at present, the incident is being handled as a medical issue rather than a disciplinary one, given the apparent mental health challenges faced by the agent.
