Breaking News: Intruder Arrested at Getty House

Reports indicate that a person was apprehended after unlawfully entering Getty House, the residence of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Law enforcement officials stated that an individual, who remains unidentified, shattered one of the property's glass doors to gain access shortly before 7 a.m. The intruder was then taken into custody without any further trouble.

While the exact duration of the intrusion is unknown, the authorities confirmed that Mayor Bass and her family were present at the time of the break-in.

"The individual managed to navigate through the premises, triggering an alarm that alerted the occupants. Officers from the Olympic Station swiftly responded and successfully apprehended the suspect without any incidents," mentioned LAPD Lieutenant James Mylonakis.

The motive behind the intrusion is currently being investigated by detectives from the LAPD Robbery and Homicide Unit.

Later in the day, LAPD disclosed the identity of the individual as 29-year-old Ephraim Matthew Hunter. He has been charged with burglary. Fortunately, no member of Mayor Bass' family was harmed during the incident. However, the suspect sustained injuries from the broken glass during the break-in.

Early this morning, around 6:40 AM, an unauthorized individual gained entry into Getty House by breaking through a window, as per a statement released by the Mayor Bass' office on Sunday. Fortunately, Mayor Bass and her family were unharmed and are currently safe. The Mayor expressed her gratitude to the LAPD for their swift response and for apprehending the suspect.

Getty House, situated in the 600 block of S. Irving Boulevard in the Windsor Square area of Hancock Park, has served as the official residence of the Los Angeles Mayor since 1977. Mayor Bass and her family have resided in the residence since early 2023, following her election to the position.

Back in late 2022, Mayor Bass' home in Baldwin Hills was targeted by intruders, with at least two individuals involved in the burglary. The perpetrators made off with two firearms before being apprehended a few days later. This incident occurred during Bass' mayoral campaign, while she was still serving as a member of the United States House of Representatives.
