Attention: Tesla Cybertruck Recall

Attention all owners of Tesla Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024. A recent statement from the National Highway Traffic Association has highlighted a safety concern with the accelerator pedals in the MY 2024 Cybertrucks.

The issue involves the accelerator pedals potentially becoming dislodged under high force, posing a risk of getting trapped in the interior trim and increasing the chances of a collision.

Furthermore, it has been discovered that an unauthorized change was made during assembly, where soap was used as a lubricant for the accelerator pedal. This caused a reduction in the retention of the pad to the pedal, exacerbating the problem.

Following a complaint received by Tesla in March 2024 and subsequent investigations, it was confirmed that the brake and accelerator functioned correctly when tested. However, a second complaint prompted further testing, leading to the identification of the issue.

As a precautionary measure, Tesla has initiated a voluntary recall of nearly 4,000 affected vehicles to address the accelerator pedal concerns. Owners are advised to contact Tesla for further instructions on the next steps.

Following recent reports, Tesla has announced that they will be replacing or repairing accelerator pedals for affected customers at no cost. As of April 15, Tesla has not received any reports of collisions, injuries, or deaths related to this issue.

By April 17, all Cybertrucks currently in production have been equipped with the new accelerator pedals.

When contacted for a statement, Tesla has yet to respond to inquiries from CBS News.

Earlier this year, Tesla recalled a large number of vehicles in the U.S. due to a safety concern regarding the font size on the instrument panel. The small font, which is used to display important warnings such as brake, park, and antilock brake system alerts in approximately 2.2 million cars, was found to be in violation of federal safety standards by the National Highway Traffic Association.
