Breaking News: Giant Extinct Snake Discovered in India

Researchers in India have made a groundbreaking discovery of a massive extinct snake, measuring up to an astonishing 50 feet in length. This colossal creature, named Vasuki indicus, is believed to be the largest madtsoiid snake ever documented, dating back 47 million years.

The team from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee unearthed an incredibly well-preserved partial vertebral column of the snake. Through meticulous analysis of the 27 vertebrae found, they were able to confirm the specimen as V. Indicus, a species that no longer exists.

Named after the serpent Vāsuki from Hindu mythology, which is famously coiled around the neck of Lord Shiva, the snake is a remarkable find that sheds light on prehistoric wildlife.

Experts speculate that this giant snake was a slow-moving ambush predator, similar to a python, rather than an active forager due to its immense size. The fully grown Vasuki indicus boasted a broad, cylindrical body and could have weighed up to a staggering 2,200 pounds.

Recently, researchers have discovered the fossil of a prehistoric snake in India that measured around 33 feet long. This ancient snake belonged to the madtsoiidae family, which roamed the earth for about 100 million years in various regions.

Unlike its counterparts in Africa, Europe, and India, this particular snake found in the Indian subcontinent lived approximately 56 to 34 million years ago. It is a remarkable find that sheds light on the biodiversity of ancient snakes in the region.
