Tragedy struck on the San Francisco Peninsula coast between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay Thursday as a driver lost their life when their vehicle plunged over a cliff along Highway 1.
Emergency response teams, including a CHP helicopter, swiftly arrived at the scene. A daring rescue mission saw a person being lowered onto the rocks where the vehicle had come to a rest, as reported by Cal Fire. Multiple agencies worked together to manage the situation.
Due to the incident, traffic flow along Highway 1 was disrupted, leading to one-way traffic control. Commuters were urged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
Tragically, CHP later confirmed that the crash had resulted in a fatality.
Cal Fire spokesperson Cecile Juliette disclosed that the driver was alone in the car at the time of the accident. The cause of the vehicle veering off the road remains unknown.
Fortunately, all lanes of Highway 1 were reopened just before 5 p.m., as confirmed by CHP, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.
