Ford Motor is conducting a recall of 456,565 Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick pickup trucks due to a potential issue where the vehicles may not detect a low battery charge, leading to a loss of engine and electrical power while driving.

The recall applies to specific 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles, as stated in a notice released on the National Highway Safety Traffic Safety Administration's website.

If the body and power train control modules in the vehicles fail to identify a sudden decrease in the 12-volt battery charge, it could result in the vehicle being unable to restart after an auto start/stop event or cause stalling when coming to a stop at low speeds, Ford explained in documents submitted to the U.S. safety regulator.

To address this issue, dealers will recalibrate the control modules at no cost. Starting on May 13, Ford will send notifications to owners via mail. For any inquiries, owners can also reach out to Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332. The recall number assigned by Ford for this issue is 24S24, and the NHTSA Campaign Number is 24V267000.

The recent recall is just another in a series of setbacks for Ford. Less than a week ago, the company issued a recall for nearly 43,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to gas leaks that pose a fire hazard. In January, Ford also recalled close to 113,000 F-150 pickup trucks over fears that a rear axle hub could break off, leading to loss of power or potential rolling when in park.
