"Spy Kids" actor Alexa PenaVega and her husband, "Big Time Rush" actor Carlos PenaVega, shared heartbreaking news on Monday, revealing that their daughter, Indy Rex PenaVega, was delivered as a stillborn. This would have been their fourth child.
In a joint statement on Instagram, the couple expressed, "There are never the right words to say when it comes to loss. After a beautiful and peaceful delivery, our daughter 'Indy' was born at rest. It has been a painful journey. But in the pain we have found peace."
Earlier, Alexa PenaVega had shared a pregnancy vlog from the hospital on March 18, where she detailed the challenges she faced. She mentioned being in the hospital for five days due to bleeding and concerns about the baby's movements.
Describing her pregnancy difficulties, Alexa explained, "My history with this pregnancy has not been easy." She recounted a scary moment when she couldn't feel the baby move, but fortunately, the baby started moving on the way to the hospital. She revealed, "It looks like I've had basically a separation of my placenta from my uterus, not completely, a partial. Luckily, it's come to a place where it can be maintained."
Statistics from the CDC reveal that approximately 21,000 babies are born as stillbirths annually in the U.S., a number similar to the babies who pass away within their first year. While early stillbirth rates have remained steady, late and term stillbirth rates have seen a significant decrease.
Details regarding the birth were not disclosed by the PenaVegas. They expressed that Indy has already made a profound impact on their lives. The couple first announced the pregnancy back in November.
"She was absolutely beautiful, resembling daddy with dark hair," shared the couple. "Grief has hit us in waves, ranging from deep sorrow to moments of feeling blessed by the time we had with her."
"Indy Rex PenaVega, you have completely transformed our world," they concluded. "You've taken us to a new place, creating the community we've yearned for. We love you and eagerly anticipate the impact you'll have on many other lives."
Former colleagues have flooded the couple with messages of sympathy for their loss.
"Our hearts and prayers are with your entire family," Big Time Rush commented on their Instagram post. "You are loved and always in our thoughts. Rest peacefully, sweet angel."
Tiffany Thornton, recognized for her roles in Disney's "Sonny with a Chance" and "So Random!," expressed being at a loss for words.
"My heart aches for all of you and I can't even begin to imagine the pain of losing a precious child," she expressed. "I hope that she will send you all signs from Heaven every day. Sending love and prayers from Arkansas to your family."
