Reports of vessels carrying deceased individuals have become distressingly common in the western side of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2021 alone, fishermen in Brazil and the Eastern Caribbean encountered at least seven boats filled with bodies.
Reports from investigative teams and local authorities have revealed that a number of boats were found carrying the bodies of African migrants who had attempted to reach the Canary Islands. Unfortunately, these migrants had veered off course and ended up drifting in the Atlantic Ocean for several weeks.
