DORAL — Tragedy struck early Saturday morning at a Miami-Dade shopping center, where a dispute between patrons escalated into a deadly shooting at the Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral.
According to authorities, a confrontation in the patio area led to a security guard stepping in to diffuse the situation. Unfortunately, one of the individuals involved pulled out a gun and fatally shot the security officer.
Following this initial act of violence, the rest of the security team engaged in a gunfight with the perpetrator, ultimately resulting in the suspect's death. In the chaos, six bystanders were also wounded — two women and four men, as well as a Doral Police officer who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
At a press briefing before 8 a.m., law enforcement confirmed that two of the injured were in critical condition and had been taken to Jackson Trauma and HCA Kendall Regional Trauma centers. The condition of the other four victims was reported as stable, although it is unclear whether they required hospitalization.
Authorities also mentioned that the officer wounded in the shootout had been a part of the police force for four years and effectively used his tourniquet during the exchange of fire. Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez highlighted that precisely one year prior, his team had undergone extensive training for handling mass casualty incidents at the same location.
