Tragic Incident in Rockford, Illinois
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four people lost their lives and five others were wounded during a violent attack on Wednesday afternoon in Rockford, Illinois. Reports from the authorities indicated that some of the victims were subjected to stabbing.
The Rockford Police Chief, Carla Redd, mentioned that the initial distress call was received around 1:15 p.m. for a medical emergency in the 2300 block of Holmes. Subsequently, there were multiple calls for police and medical assistance at various locations in Rockford and neighboring parts of Winnebago County.
Winnebago County Sheriff, Gary Caruana, disclosed that a home invasion occurred near the Florence and Eggleston intersection. A young woman, attempting to escape, suffered severe stab wounds on her face and hands. A Good Samaritan who intervened to assist her also became a victim of stabbing.
Redd confirmed that four individuals succumbed to their injuries, one person was in critical condition, and four others were transported to hospitals for treatment, where their conditions were stabilized. While not all victims were stabbed, there were no gunshot wounds reported. Caruana mentioned that among the deceased was a postal worker.
By approximately 1:30 p.m., a suspect was apprehended, as stated by Caruana.
The Mayor of Rockford, Tom McNamara, expressed being deeply disturbed by the violent incident.
Police Questioning Suspect in Custody Following Attack
Following a recent attack, authorities have taken a suspect into custody and are currently questioning them. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time.
