A 21-year-old man was killed and his brother was injured in a mountain lion attack in a remote area of Northern California's El Dorado County Saturday, authorities said.

GEORGETOWN - A tragic incident unfolded in a remote area of Northern California's El Dorado County on Saturday, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man and injuries to his brother in a mountain lion attack.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., deputies located the 18-year-old brother while searching for his sibling. Not long after, they discovered a crouched mountain lion near the victim on the ground.

Law enforcement officers discharged their firearms in an attempt to scare off the mountain lion. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the 21-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.

The younger brother was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has been called in to investigate the incident and locate the mountain lion involved.
