An escaped inmate and his alleged accomplice were apprehended in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Thursday afternoon following an extensive manhunt.

Skylar Meade, the inmate who fled from a medical facility in Boise early Wednesday morning, was being transported back to prison by corrections officers when Nicholas Umphenour reportedly opened fire on them.

Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar announced during a press briefing that the suspects were discovered in the Twin Falls vicinity around 2 p.m. local time on Thursday. After a brief chase, both individuals were taken into custody separately without any gunfire.

Prior to the escape, Meade exhibited "self-injurious" behavior on Tuesday night, prompting authorities to arrange for his transfer to an off-site medical facility, as stated by Josh Tewalt, the director of the state's Department of Correction, during a news conference on Wednesday.

Umphenour allegedly assaulted and shot at two officers at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Subsequently, a third individual, later identified as a corrections officer, was wounded by responding Boise police officers.
