Tragic Incident: 1-Year-Old Boy Dies After Dog Attack in Connecticut
A heartbreaking incident occurred in Connecticut, where a 1-year-old boy lost his life after being bitten by a dog. This marks the second fatality of a young child due to a dog attack in the U.S. this week.
Authorities were called to a residence in East Hartford around 3 p.m. on Wednesday after the child sustained multiple bites from a dog, as reported by Officer Marc Caruso, a police spokesperson.
Despite the immediate lifesaving efforts by emergency responders and transportation to a hospital, the child tragically succumbed to his injuries, Caruso confirmed.
The dog involved in the attack was identified as a Dalmatian pit bull mix, according to CBS affiliate WFSB-TV.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities having removed two dogs from the property, Caruso stated.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones as they mourn their loss," expressed Caruso. "May they find solace and strength during this challenging time."
This devastating event follows closely after another recent dog attack in New Jersey, where an infant lost their life and the parents were injured.
Recent data from Forbes reveals that annually, between 30 to 50 individuals lose their lives as a result of dog bites. Shockingly, almost 30% of fatal dog attacks are reported to have victims aged between 1 and 4 years old.
