Following a scathing review from former President Donald Trump of Jimmy Kimmel's hosting performance at the 2024 Oscars, Kimmel decided to address it during the ceremony — taking the opportunity to also take a swipe at the 2024 Republican presidential frontrunner.
Trump's social media post questioned if there had ever been a "worse host" than Kimmel at the Oscars, particularly criticizing his opening monologue. He humorously suggested that ABC should have swapped out four-time host Kimmel for "Good Morning America" co-anchor George Stephanopoulos (whom Trump referred to as "George Slopanopoulos").
Kimmel, known for his past criticisms of Trump on his late night show, seized the moment to read Trump's remarks live on air during his closing speech — much to the amusement of the Hollywood audience.
"Can you guess which former president just shared that on Truth Social?" Kimmel quipped. "Anyone? No?"
"Thank you, President Trump," he added. "Thank you for tuning in. I'm surprised you're still awake. Isn't it past bedtime?" The joke — alluding to Trump facing charges in four criminal cases on state and federal levels — was met with applause at the awards ceremony.
During the latest Gala of the Stars, the film "Dreamscape" emerged victorious in several key categories, including best screenplay, best supporting actor, and best ensemble cast, following its impressive 12 nominations. Another standout of the evening was "Echoes of Eternity," which secured three awards, with a highlight being best cinematography for its stunning visuals.
