Human Remains Found in Missouri Pond
Detectives and cadaver dogs made a grim discovery on Sunday when they found human remains in a pond in Missouri. The shocking find comes days after a missing man's car was found submerged in the water.
Authorities believe that the remains belong to Donnie Erwin, who went missing 10 years ago on December 29, 2013, in Camden County, located in the Ozarks. Erwin was last seen driving a silver 2002 Hyundai Elantra, which was recently pulled from the pond after a YouTuber contacted the police.
The discovery was made after cadaver dogs alerted detectives to the presence of human remains in the pond on Saturday morning. On Christmas Eve, divers returned to the scene and recovered the remains, as well as an artificial hip that is consistent with the one Erwin had.
While investigators are confident that the remains and artificial hip belong to Erwin, a forensic pathologist will examine them to make a final determination.
The Erwin missing person case has caught the attention of YouTuber James Hinkle, who has taken it upon himself to investigate. Hinkle reached out to the owner of the property where a pond is located after his drone spotted a submerged car in the water. With permission from the property owner, Hinkle conducted a search of the area on foot and by kayak. He documented his search and discovery in a video posted on his YouTube channel, Echo Divers.
The missing person, identified as Erwin, was 59 years old at the time of his disappearance. According to authorities, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall with brown eyes and brown hair. Erwin was last seen wearing a blue coat, blue jeans, and gray loafers. He had a missing left leg above the knee and a scar on his left arm from his elbow to his wrist. It was also noted that he might be using crutches.
The sheriff's office has informed Erwin's family about the new development. In a statement, the department expressed their gratitude to the countless volunteers who have assisted in the case over the past ten years. They also expressed their joy at finally providing closure to the family.
