President Biden Addresses Migrant Crossings and Fentanyl Crackdown
President Biden had a conversation with Mexico's President López Obrador on Thursday morning to discuss the ongoing spike in migrant crossings at the southern border.
In a recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Biden secured new commitments from China to take action against the production and distribution of fentanyl. The United States is collaborating with China on a comprehensive plan to hold accountable the companies responsible for manufacturing fentanyl precursors.
A surge of migrants is occurring at the southern border, with an estimated 10,000 individuals crossing each day. The influx of migrants is placing a strain on federal and local resources, particularly in cities led by Democrats such as New York and Chicago. These cities are struggling to provide housing for the growing numbers of migrants, leading to concerns voiced by local officials. Polling indicates that a majority of Americans view President Biden's immigration agenda unfavorably.
Liberal-led cities are becoming increasingly frustrated with the administration's response. New York Mayor Eric Adams recently expressed his disappointment after a trip to Washington, D.C., stating, "Help is not on the way."
Despite Texas Governor Greg Abbott signing a bill that criminalizes illegal immigration into the state, migrants continue to enter the U.S. under the new law, Texas officials have the authority to arrest and attempt to deport individuals suspected of crossing the border illegally.
