Teenagers Charged with Felony Battery at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

Five teenagers have been charged with felony battery after a "physical altercation" at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, according to the Coral Springs Police Department.

The incident occurred on December 12 near the high school student parking lot at around 3 p.m. local time. Officers responded to reports of a fight and one student was transported to the hospital with "non-life threatening injuries," as stated by the department.

The Coral Springs Police Department announced on Friday that they have obtained arrest affidavits for five teenagers involved in the incident, aged 15 to 17. As of December 15, four of the teens were in custody. The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that the fifth suspect turned himself in, while the sixth suspect remains at large.

Further details about the altercation and the identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed at this time.

Four teenagers, who were identified as students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and one from Coral Glades High School, have been arrested for felony battery in Coral Springs, Florida.

The Coral Springs Police Department announced in a Facebook post on Monday that they are working to identify an additional suspect in the incident. They also stated that the safety of the community and schools is their top priority.

"The safety of our community and schools remains our top priority. On a daily basis, we have approximately 50 officers from multiple specialized units who are assigned to patrol areas around schools during dismissal. In this incident, we did have two patrol officers around North Community Park during dismissal time. This continues to be an ongoing investigation where additional arrests may be forthcoming," the police department said. "We want to assure the public that such behavior will not be tolerated in the City of Coral Springs."

Felony battery in Florida is classified as a third-degree felony with a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison.
