Acclaimed actor Andre Braugher passes away
Acclaimed actor Andre Braugher has passed away after battling lung cancer, according to his publicist. The news was confirmed by CBS News on Thursday.
Braugher's publicist, Jennifer Allen, had previously stated that the actor died on Monday, Dec. 11 "after a brief illness." The announcement of his death was made on Tuesday night.
No further details about Braugher's illness or cause of death were provided by Allen.
Braugher was widely recognized for his versatile performances in both dramatic and comedic roles. He gained prominence for his roles in the police procedural series "Homicide: Life on the Street" and the sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." He also had a successful career in stage and film, with his most recent appearance being in the movie adaptation of the New York Times' investigation into Harvey Weinstein, titled "She Said."
Throughout his career, Braugher received 11 Emmy nominations, winning two, and two Golden Globe nominations. He also earned 22 NAACP Image Award nominations.
Braugher is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and their three sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley. He is also survived by his brother and mother.
Following the news of his death, an outpouring of tributes has been seen from fans and colleagues.

Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like."
Marc Evan Jackson, who played Braugher's husband on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," shared a photo of the two hugging on-set, simply captioning it "O Captain. My Captain."
